Quality of content
A websites soul is its content. Content is basically everything on the website. They can be texts, tools, videos, audio or links to interesting or entertaining resources. A high quality website provides relevant, useful content and a good user experience. Below are some factors that need to be considered on building quality content of a website.
Readability (of style of writing)
- My Flaming Heart
- (a) Has a very informal style of writing probably to make it folksy and cool
- (b) Does not follow grammatical rules. Has a lot of errors such as incomplete or randomly structured sentences (sentences that should have been put as bullet-point list), capitalisation and italication of words when they should not be (Point 1 on image)
- (c) Style of writing might be related to the local slang within the Houston community (for niche marketing purpose), but makes the comprehension of the sentences tougher for non-local communities
- (d) Provides a good feel of the eccentric nature of the store (probably intentional by the owner) as but overall it feels a lot less professional
- Rokit
- (a) Clear, coherent and concise texts
- (b) Grammatical rules strictly followed
- (c) Standard English style of writing. Readers from diverse cultures and geographical areas most likely will not have difficulty understanding the texts
- (d) Feels more professional
Update frequency and freshness of information
- My Flaming Heart
- (a) Not sure how updated the website is as there is no copyright year ( 2014) at the bottom of the website content (Point 1 on image)
- (b) No specific date details on when the website was last updated
- (c) However, facebook, twitter and Instagram were updated with posts till May 2014
- Rokit
- (a) Copyright year ( 2014) at the bottom of the website content (Point 1 on top image)
- (b) Although new items were not specified with their entry dates, the website has a subpage which contains a blog with the last entry dated as 25th April 2014 (Point 2 on second image)
- (c) Facebook, twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and Pinterest were all updated since March 2014, except their Youtube channel which was last updated a year ago
Accuracy and credibility
- My Flaming Heart
- (a) Hard to decipher the accuracy of information as it is not an online retail store whereby customers can buy directly, thus cannot rely on the site being up-to-date for things such as availability of stock
- (b) Merely just indicate the general types of clothing they are selling and not in specific details (Point 1 on image)
- (c) No actual photographs of the clothes, just paintings which make the credibility even lesser (it seems like customers are shopping for artworks instead of clothes) (Point 2 on image)
- Rokit
- (a) More reliable website as it is an integrated online shop, thus for stock availability of an item it should be automatically updated when a particular stock is low or sold out but it is not 100% certain (Point 1 on image)
- (b) Provides actual pictures of every item to be sold (Point 2 on image)
- (c) Every item to be sold as a link for it and specific description of it. Comprehensive catalogue of items
Appropriate to target group?
- My Flaming Heart
- (a) Website is probably tailored to local audience due to the writing style and buyers need to visit the shop in person
- Rokit
- (a) Website is tailored to audience not only within the UK but also around the world
- (b) Purchasing of goods does not limit to physically visiting the shops, although there might be some difference in the variety of goods sold online and in the shops
- (c) Children below age 18 may not have the ability to do online purchasing due to minimum legal age required to possess their own bank cards
